INFORMATION FROM WEB ABOUT THIS GUN: The SAMORARIADNYNA VINTOKA TOKAREVA(SVT) self loading Tokarev and the AWT and AT are possibily shorthand for AUTOMATISCESKA VINTOKA TOKAREVA, automatic loading rifles and both had Tokarev designs based on the well tried Mosin Nagant platform. The Red Army and the Wehrmacht required automatic rifles and between 1938 and 1943 both tried to produce such weapons. Tokarev had some success with the SVT and the AVT and some were provided to non-commissioned officers higher officers and marine forces but were met with mixed reports from the field as they suffered from catastrophic failures and fatalities when used in combat. The barrelling and receivers were considered too light duty for prolonged automatic firing nevertheless the Wehrmacht copied some of Tokarev's designs. Both the Red Army and the Wehrmacht moved on to produce larger caliber automatic rifles(Sturmgewehre) to fill the combat gap. One little known development of the Tokarev refashioned Mosin Nagant was their use as an anti-tank weapon with longer receivers to take 7.62x155mm rimfire rounds and later 7.62x122mm rimless rounds both of which had more power to penetrate tank armour. Such modified Tokarev Mosin Nagant rifles had only limited combat time as the war came to an end and they were replaced by larger caliber anti-tank weapons.
The receivers of some SVT and AWT rifles were married to Mosin barrels and the receivers altered to accommodate 7.62x54R rounds.
It is possible that the above listed rare firearm the 1942 AWT AT rifle was originally an automatic rifle and possibly and more likely also a AT anti-tank weapon. The weapon exhibits the PU IZHESK mark and the accuracy rifle mark on the left hand side of the barrel and other marks have been overwritten showing various conversions. BATF CURIOS and RELICS LIST
